Pham Quoc Hung works in a variety of mediums including oil painting, woodblock, and traditional Vietnamese silk paintings. Hung's passion for art began as a young boy where he frequently admired the work of many local artists hanging in galleries around his hometown of Huế, Vietnam. Hung began to develop his own unique style and was eventually invited by a professor to study at the Huế Fine Arts University. The rest is history!
Artist Statement
When I was a little boy I was really interested in seeing artists working; in my mind I always wanted to be like them. When I grew up I started to learn to paint but I felt that it wasn't easy. Thanks to my love and the passion for painting, I developed a very strong will that helped me practice nonstop. Eventually all the difficulty passed by and I worked very hard at my painting. Painting helped me to develop happiness in my mind, in my heart, and gave me inspiration.
When I paint, I try to create something that captures the most beautiful aspect in my painting, and try to make my painting the most beautiful it can be.
The nature of my paintings is simple but very strong. The color is very glorious with high contrast combined with different technical methods giving my paintings a deep "psychology" or deep meaning. My paintings are rich and vivid in artistic quality.
I love people, I love the rice fields, and my many memories of the old town where I was born and grew up . These places and memories impress me very much and in my mind and heart inspire my artwork.
I enjoy using different mediums. For example oil paintings, wood block, and traditional silk paintings. Each medium enables me to express a different language and style in my paintings. When people look at each style of painting, every person has a different interpretation of those paintings based on the different styles.
The inspiration behind my art really comes when I start working. Different ideas come to me very suddenly. I try to paint as quickly as I can to capture the emotions in my heart and satisfy the happiness within my heart. Sometimes I feel that I have almost created what I dreamed, but in reality I'm only able to capture a small part of the beauty of the universe.

I am inspired by many artists, including many who are not famous, because each artist has a different way of expressing their painting. I learn new aspects of painting from every artist I see or meet.
